  • Responsible for nightly production, editing, layout, headline writing and news judgement for seven-day-a-week sports section.
  • Write alternative-story format gamers, feature-heavy previews and in-depth longform pieces on stories as varied as boxing gyms, sailing, baseball umpire training and equestrian studies.
  • Write and edit Kuriosities, a sports and pop culture blog focused mainly on baseball, basketball, movies, television and sports media.
  • One of two main contributors to popular @SC_Varsity Twitter account, while also managing @SouthCoastToday and @BrendanKurieSCT (now @BrendanKurie)
  • Managed SouthCoastToday and SouthCoastVarsity Facebook and Instagram pages
  • Created, managed and contributed to Standard-Times Podcast Network, which at its peak had more than a dozen regular shows and hundreds of episodes. 
  • Created hundreds of videos for SouthCoastToday YouTube page, as well as consistently producing Facebook Live, Instagram Live and Periscope videos, as well as Instagram and Facebook Stories. 
  • Wrote restaurant and television reviews, produced a yearly SouthCoast 5-Star Dining Guide and covered about restaurant news.
  • Occassionally tasked with news editing, including serving as fill-in Sunday editor and covering breaking news when needed.

 

Faribault Daily News and Kenyon Leader, Faribault, MN

  • Responsible for six-day-a-week 6,300-circulation sports department including assigning stories, writing, photography, editing and layout.
  • Produce a two-page sports section for 1,500-circulation weekly paper.
  • Manage a staff of one sports reporter.
  • Run Sports section of faribault.com including shooting and posting video, polls and maintaining a blog, as well as contributing content to the Faribault Sports Network. Created sports department's Facebook page and built @faribaultsports Twitter account from 150 followers to more than 1,000 in 2.5 years.
  • Also tasked with editing local content in news section each night and working with News Editor on design and headline writing.

 

Douglas Budget and Glenrock Independent, Wyoming

  • Responsible for editorial content of two weekly newspapers with combined circulation of 5,600.
  • Managed and directed staff of three to five reporters, including hiring and training.
  • Responsible for layout, editing, assignments and determining news priority for both papers.
  • Implemented changes to website and addition of new media (Facebook, Twitter) that doubled page views within two years.
  • Introduced new ad revenue ideas, such as sponsored banners for championship games.

March 2007 – March 2011, Sports Reporter

  • Solely responsible for sports section of both papers from inception to completion.
  • Developed all story ideas, wrote all sports stories (gamers, features, previews, briefs, columns), took all pictures, wrote headlines, designed sports sections.
  • Sports covered include: football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, volleyball, swimming and diving, gymnastics, track and field, golf, hockey, soccer, rodeo, hunting, motocross, drag racing, shooting sports, skateboarding, demolition derby.
  • Also wrote hard news, features, columns, editorials and took photos for news side.

 

USATODAY.COM, Tyson's Corner, Virginia

  • Posted stories from USA Today, AP wire, GNS wire and columnists.
  • Wrote headlines, cut lines, briefs and “chatter”; chose, cropped and placed pictures from AP photo wire; created Day in Sports photo galleries, online polls and statistical charts.
  • Wrote Washington Redskins preview article for football page.
